What’s the procedure for repairing an electric bike?
We place as much importance on maintaining and repairing your bike as we do on helping you choose it. Our specialists are committed to ensuring that your bike remains functional, reliable, and safe. They are trained and equipped to handle the technological specifics of each model and understand the unique features of your bike. That’s why they can restore your electric bike quickly and under optimal conditions.
They’ll check all your bike’s components just like they would on a traditional bicycle—hub, handlebars, drivetrain, braking system, wheels, tire pressure and condition, chain wear and lubrication, cog wear, etc.
Regarding the motor, your Globle Village technician will check its mounting and also connect a diagnostic tool to update the software. This tool will also be used if you're experiencing motor issues. In such cases, a certified Globle Village technician will repair your electric bike or contact the manufacturer (Bosch, Yamaha, Impulse, etc.) if parts need replacing before proceeding.
What can I do to repair my electric bike myself?
Maintaining an electric bike isn’t more demanding than a traditional or folding bike. For example, you should regularly oil the chain, check tire pressure, and tighten components like the saddle, stem, handlebars, as well as the drivetrain and brakes. If you’re handy, you can replace cables, brake pads, etc., and fix a flat tire on your own. Otherwise, we recommend calling a professional.
For the battery, to ensure optimal lifespan, avoid letting it stay fully discharged for extended periods. If you're not using your electric bike, recharge the battery every two months and store it in a place around 20°C, ideally away from light.
For any motor-related work, contact a certified Globle Village technician. They are trained by various manufacturers to service and repair their motor systems.
Lastly, when cleaning your electric bike (as with any bike), avoid high-pressure water jets. Instead, opt for gentle washing with soapy water.
Can a derestricted electric bike be repaired at Globle Village?
Some riders have installed derestriction devices on their e-bikes to exceed 25 km/h and increase motor power. It's important to note that this is illegal—removing the speed limit converts the e-bike into an unauthorized motor vehicle.
This type of vehicle must be declared to the Ministry of the Interior, registered, and insured. A helmet must be worn at all times, and it is forbidden to ride such a vehicle on any Globle Village track or facility.
Higher speed also means:
-
Increased risk of accidents
-
Greater severity of injuries in case of an accident
That’s why a moped has a sturdier frame, wider fork, stronger brakes, and larger tires than a regular bicycle.
For clear safety reasons, Globle Village does not perform any technical work on derestricted e-bikes, as they are no longer compliant with regulations.
Can an electric-assist bicycle be repaired at Globle Village?
Since May 22, 2022, bicycles equipped with electrification kits are allowed on public roads in France, as long as they respect the following conditions:
-
Maximum motor power of 250W
-
Speed limit of 25 km/h
-
Pedal-assist only (the motor must stop when you stop pedaling; a startup assist is allowed if it doesn’t exceed 6 km/h)
However, since traditional bikes sold by Globle Village are not certified for use with motor-assist kits, installing such a kit will void the legal warranty provided by the manufacturers.
For this reason—and because your safety is our top priority—our technicians will not perform any repairs or interventions on the electric or transmission components of modified bicycles.
We also recommend checking with your insurance provider regarding coverage in the event of an accident involving an electrified bike.
